Room Selection
Room Selection 3/1/23 - 4/1/23
To participate in the Room Selection process, you need to:
1.) Be a current Tech student living on campus for the Spring 2023 semester.
2.) Complete and submit an online housing application/license agreement by April 1st, 2023* for priority placement.
3.) You will be notified via your NMT student email of your placement by June 1st.
(*Applications submitted after April 1st for the 2023-2024 housing application/license agreement will be issued a Room Selection Lottery Number and a housing preference form. You MUST submit this form to select your room.)
There are several factors affecting 2023-2024 room options and availability for returning residents in this Selection Process:
- Limited Occupancy: We will be filling all double occupancy rooms as doubles not singles (this includes Baca Hall). Singles are ONLY available with an Access Services Waiver for room accommodations. For more information regarding this process please visit our Access Services Site.
- Previous Placements/Squatting Rights: A student is never guaranteed the same room from one academic year to another. Squatting Rights will no longer be a part of Housing & Residential Life’s Room Selection and Placement process.
- Roommate v. Hall Priority: Student roommate requests/preferences will be prioritized OVER residence hall placement requests when and where applicable.
- On-Campus Housing Guarantee Cut-Off: The cut-off date to be guaranteed an on-campus housing placement for the upcoming
fall term is July 1st.
- Exception – If our residence halls reach full occupancy before July 1st, we will inform applicants on the effective date that on-campus housing is no longer guaranteed.
- Room Selection Priorities –
- First-Year Residence Halls: Incoming, first-year students will have priority placement in the following halls: Torres, West (1st floor), Driscoll (1st floor), Presidents and (1st and 2nd floors).
- Upper-Class Residence Halls: Returning, upper-class students will have priority placement in the following halls: South, Baca, Presidents (basement floor), and Alta (priority for Alta will be given to students who are 21+ years of age).
- Altamirano: Alta is now considered an ‘Alcohol Permitted’ residence hall. Thus, priority will be given to students who are 21+ years of age.
- The Queer Affinity Space (formerly gender-inclusive/gender-neutral housing) will be available on the East Wing of West Hall, not the entire building. Gender-inclusive housing is not intended for romantic couples. Rather, it provides options for a variety of students: students who feel they would be more compatible with a roommate of a different sex or gender, students in the process of discovering their gender identity, or students who do not want sex or gender to be a primary factor in choosing a roommate. The Queer & Ally Affinity Space intends to support a welcoming & inclusive campus climate regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, thus, all restrooms will be designated as “all gender”. *Please note that a Gender Inclusive Housing Agreement is required for all individuals to live in this community.
- Mountain Springs Apartments and Desert Willow Apartments: Are now controlled exclusively by Auxiliary Services. Priority for these spaces will be given to graduate students, domestic partners/married couples with/without families, and international students. For more information on pricing, availability, and applications visit Apartment Communities or email to apt-housing@qmbh4.com.
